What to Expect in 2020 in the Unified Communication and Collaboration-as-a-Service (UCCaaS) Space

By Team CounterPath
1

The Unified Communication and Collaboration-as-a-Service (UCCaaS) market is growing. By 2022, the global market for cloud-based UCCaaS is projected to reach $17.8B. This is largely due to the growing appeal of the cloud business model, its ease of scalability and superior reliability, as well as an increased investment in cloud computing. The largest market will be in the United States, with Asia Pacific growing fastest due to an emerging base of SMBs. Looking ahead to 2020, here are the five areas that we see becoming more of a focus in the industry in the new year.

  1. Video Chat

Previous projections stated that by 2020 the video platform communication-as-a-service market would grow to $1.7B. Although Apple and Google released Facetime and Google Hangouts in 2011, both didn’t really start to take over until 2014. Many businesses already used VoIP for their operations however, applications like Skype, WhatsApp and Snapchat really paved the way for what became a direct way for people to talk consumer-to-consumer. At CounterPath, our hosted Stretto™ Collaboration solution for lets businesses overlay video chat and conferencing for up to 200 participants on top of their current communications infrastructure, so they can gain access to the benefits of video chat securely, and without the use of “shadow IT” apps. Both Bria Enterprise and Bria Teams Pro offer virtual meeting rooms with video conferencing and screensharing to streamline business communications.

  1. Security Concerns

Cybercrime is becoming more and more prevalent. Phishing, in particular, has become an increasingly common security issue affecting many companies today. Apart from phishing, network intrusion is the second biggest security concern. Investing in cybersecurity is of the utmost importance for companies wanting to shore up their defenses. CounterPath products have been put through the most stringent security practices. We establish secure signalling and encrypted media between our desktop and mobile clients and any IP PBX, Media Gateway or UC platform. To put it plainly, we take security seriously. Going into 2020, we expect to see security threats continue to be an important issue, as the hacking of online data doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

  1. Increase in Mobile UC

As mobile working increases, 63% of businesses continually rate mobility of employees as the most significant factor that enables a competitive edge. Mobile UC blurs the line between home and the workplace and allows people to be “always on”, ensuring that business activities run smoothly. Mobility is important because it transforms the way people think about the role work plays in their daily lives. Our solutions enable seamless communication no matter where you are.

  1. Increased Adoption of VoIP in Schools

More schools are seeing the value of Unified Communications and in particular VoIP. Many schools use VoIP to enhance e-learning as it facilitates class collaboration. The CounterPath VoIP Softphone SDK can enable education application developers in creating custom communication solutions for schools and higher learning institutions. Our softphone SDK compliant with SIP and XMPP standards and has more certifications than any other SDK on the market. With the education VoIP market set to grow by over 18% with adoption of softphone applications by teachers and students, this is a great place for developers to start from.

  1. Mobile Voice Solutions on More Than Just Smartphones

Extend communications beyond smartphone devices and see increased ROI and employee productivity with UC on rugged handheld devices and barcode scanners. These devices are ubiquitous in healthcare, retail, manufacturing, logistics and warehouse environments. When paired with a VoIP softphone, they can easily replace additional communication endpoints, such as walkie-talkies or wall phones. Plus, with all data and communication tools on one device, users have access to everything they need easily to increase response times to improve customer service, and ultimately customer satisfaction.
