What’s better than a video of someone talking? A video of what someone is talking ABOUT!
The great author David Foster Wallace once gave a hilariously prescient description about the pitfalls of video telephony in his 1996 novel “Infinite Jest”. And while I disagree with some of what he says, I think his point is that seeing someone talk during a call is not particularly useful (or appealing). Or, at least, not as useful as seeing what that person is talking about. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Screen sharing is a huge boost to enterprise users’ effectiveness and productivity. Now that I can show people work-in-progress or results while I explain it, it means I don’t have to walk over, drive, or fly to show them in person. This means savings on the order of thousands of dollars per year when you consider travel costs and the cost of employees’ time. Plus I can show my screen to multiple people at the same time, both within my organization and with external customers or vendors. It is nice if they have Bria, but it is just as easy to share my screen with them if they don’t. All they need is a browser.
