Bria and Apple – Introducing the Dynamic Duo for Mobile Productivity

With the rise of the “always connected” workforce, we have been focusing on our abilities to deliver more mobile solutions to our customers. This latest innovation is intended to improve the user experience for iPhone users by meeting critical mobile integration needs, which are central to the productivity of any business.  By providing more interoperability and integration, we are empowering our Apple device users with an improved communication flow and increased interactivity for mobile headsets.

What is CallKit?
CallKit is an Apple framework that lets our Bria softphone integrate tightly with the native iPhone user interface. CounterPath uses the Apple CallKit to let users receive incoming calls and make outgoing calls using the functionality, look and feel of the Bria softphone.

How does this benefit iPhone users?
By leveraging the latest iOS 10 platform tools, CounterPath can simplify the way users handle all incoming calls from a locked screen or when on an active call.  Previously, if a Bria call was in progress, an incoming cellular call would disrupt your Bria call immediately. The native dialler, which in simple terms is your iPhone dialler, would override your Bria call - leading to a very disruptive user experience.

Now, with CallKit integration, Bria acts as a native iPhone application so that users can respond to calls without inputting a password or unlocking their handsets. Essentially, if a Bria user has a cellular call coming in, the Bria call appears as any other call would, giving the user the option to decline or accept. We’ve empowered our mobile customers with the ability to answer Bria calls from a locked screen during an active call as well as swap between on-hold calls.

Customers will now have access to selections like ‘Remind Me’, ‘Message’, ‘End & Accept’, ‘Send to Voicemail’ and ‘Hold & Accept’. They will also see the history of all calls, Bria or otherwise, in the native 'Recents' call log, this makes keeping track of all your calls much easier.  The user can then return a call using Bria directly from the native Recents call log.

How does this enhance interoperability?
What's even more exciting is that Bria CallKit lets your app coexist seamlessly with other active calls and allows your calls to interact with Bluetooth accessories and headsets.
