Alexander Graham Bell's First Phone Call Enabled Today's Cloud-Based, Mobile Workforce

On March 10, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell made the first telephone call from his working laboratory in Boston. The phone call was made to summon his assistant, Thomas Watson, from the next room.

In Bell's journal which is now contained in the library of congress, it is detailed as follows:

I then shouted into M [the mouthpiece] the following sentence: "Mr. Watson, come here -- I want to see you." To my delight he came and declared that he had heard and understood what I said.

I asked him to repeat the words. He answered, "You said 'Mr. Watson -- come here -- I want to see you.'" We then changed places and I listened at S [the speaker] while Mr. Watson read a few passages from a book into the mouthpiece M. It was certainly the case that articulate sounds proceeded from S. The effect was loud but indistinct and muffled.

Though some people dispute whether Bell really invented the telephone, he did manage to secure the first patent and his subsequent contributions to the field of telecommunications speak for themselves.

Currently, there are 5 billion mobile phone users around the world. The number of mobile phone users in the world will increase significantly in the next four years, as predicted by Statista. Currently, the number stands at 6.8 billion users, and a steady increase is expected over the course of the next four years. Statistics also predict that we might already expect to breach the 7 billion mark in a year from now.

Keeping this in mind, mobility in the workplace is only going to become more and more important. UC softphone solutions, cloud meetings, and business text messaging solutions that allow workers to work from anywhere, on any network using their mobile phones as well as laptops, are gaining in popularity worldwide.

Similar to Mr. Bell, At Alianza, we are inventing a new way to deliver communications. Our vision is to deliver the world’s best cloud communications platform for service providers. We use the cloud to not only change the definition of a voice network, but also to transform the business model for service providers. We want to see service providers come over to the cloud and thrive.

Alianza has introduced a program called EasySwitch, that can help cable MSOs (Multi-System Operators), ISPs (Internet Service Providers) and telcos successfully migrate from their end-of-life first generation VoIP infrastructure. We provide professional services and service credits to ease the financial and logistical challenges related to next-generation transitions. We are bringing together our experience, tool set and expertise to ensure a rapid and safe migration to our lower-cost cloud-based wholesale solution.
